    option - i.e., allow others to see you on line - is it possible to make it NOT available at all?

    I don't think so.
    You of course could go in and change your members profiles when you find that they are hiding their online status but that could be time consuming.
    you might just want to post it as a rule that "hiding online status" is prohibited etc.

    personally I don't see the issue with hiding, but from other posts i have read here, apparently others so as well.

    But you can still see them in the Admin Panel they will have special letters
