Gallery Storage Changes

Can someone tell me when the storage changes to the gallery where made, previously I purchased points and they were valid for the amount of time you specified. It was an all in one purchase. I've just discovered that first of all I need to pay for the space and then up to 6000 credits if I want that storage to last for a year.

I would have expected that gallery users receive an email at the least explaining these changes, so they are aware of what they are getting into and that they have the option to not use the gallery if cost is a factor especially considering the fact that this means you have in effect more than quadrupled the price for storage.

I understand you need to make your money somewhere but this doesn't seem very fair to me.
