Merging problems Empty Merging problems

Post by Baz October 22nd 2008, 9:23 pm

A thread of mine has split into 3. I don't know if a mod has done it? But the merging process will not work for me?

Am I doing something wrong?

Merging problems Empty Re: Merging problems

it's not hard.
but if you have them all split and scattered now?? i hope not?
but if they are? you have to split them and put them all back to the same thread again. or split them to the original thread you wanted them merged too,to begin with?

when merging the thread.

just scroll down to you mod tools.
select merge

now the page will come up. click on (select)

now on the right hand side at the top you will see bar with and arrow pointing down. click that arrow and select which forum you want to merge it with. then click (go)

now you will see all of the threads/topics.
on the left hand side you will see a Lil (circle)
check the (circle) off next to the thread you want it to be merged with.
then hit (go) again on the same bar on the right from b/f.

now at the bottom of the page. it will tell you Ware it's going to be merged to.
hit (send.) now it will ask you if your sure you want to merge it to the thread you have chosen. just click (yes). and that's it. Smile

sometimes it can be confusing b/c a lot of people dont realise the circle has to be checked off. or dont see them.. lol

so that should do it. if you need more help just come here.

hope that helps .thanks

PS. Lil pointer.
when ever you move or split a thread, post or topic. (not merging)
never leave a shadow. leaving a shadow will allow the thread, post or topic to remain in it's original place. it will still move it. or split it. but also leave it behind ware it was .

when you move a topic you have the option to 'leave a shadow' in old forum.
what that does is put a bolded :Moved: "name of topic" in the original place.

Ok. Thanks. A shadow was not left.

I still cannot merge the thread back together though and I have tried numerous times. I can't see what I am doing wrong?

i dont know then?
did you follow all the steps above?
that's how you do it. i dont know why it would not work.

try splitting one topic and see if that goes to the thread you want it to.
just to see if that works. then follow the steps above once again.
if it is not working. then there has to something wrong and you might have to get a tech.

OK go over to the tech page and explain that it is not working in as much detail as possible.
https://help.forumotion.com/need-of-a-technician-f3/

also be sure to put the link up going to this page.
it will help them to understand better and that you are in fact doing it correctly it's just not working.
that's the only other thing i can think of doing now. try to be patient. but i'm sure the can get it working for you.

hope that helps. thanks

if you like i can give you temp access to my test forum and walk you through it step by step.

but if we do the same thing you already did it works on mine but not working that way on yours. then your still left in the same boat of it not working.

but i'm willing to try to just make sure you are not missing anything.
or try to pm a mod to see how to contact an admin that can either help further. or get a tech for ya. i know there's one admin that accepts pm. but i forget who it is.

what dose it exactly tell you after you try to merge but dont work?
merger not successful or something?

How big was the thread that spit into 3 pieces? I understand that it will happen automatically if the thread gets too big.

100 pages. It's split into 40 pages/40 pages and 20 pages.

Does it do this automatically then after 40 pages?
