Solved How do I add a "New Posts" or "Active Topics" Button to my Navbar?

Post by HEMISFEAR November 6th 2008, 4:09 am

I've got over 100 members who are all used to VBulletin software, and the little sentences that I have on my board are hardly noticaeble...is there any way to achieve a new posts or active topics button installed in the Navigation Bar or at the very least in larger fonts for just this area? Also, what do I link the button to in order to get this to work? I've searched the site here for an answer...to no avail even though I'm sure the issue has been raised. Thanks in advance for anyone's advice.

I have come from V-Bulletin also and we also wanted a New Posts button, so I created one. I have described once before here how to do it.

Get an icon you'd like to use for the botton. Maybe you'd like it to match the navigation buttons your already have, or maybe something completely different. I had mine matching the other buttons, but now i just use a butterfly. Upload this image to what ever picture hosting site you use. Photobucket being a popular one.

Click on the words that say 'view posts since last visit' This is usually written just above your first topic and small, off to one side, depending on what version of phpbb your running.
COPY THE ADDRESS ONCE YOU'VE BEEN DIRECTED TO A NEW PAGE CONTAINING ANY NEW POSTS THERE MAY BE AT THAT TIME

Go to admin panel> Display tab
Down the side, you'll see the option 'headers and navigation'
    Click it

Scroll down that page untill you see a button that says add a customised menu - click it

Under menu and text, type which ever... for me I put New Posts for both.
Under Picture, paste the direct link to the image you would like to use.
Under redirection URL, put the address you copied before when you clicked on view posts since last visit.

Check who you want to be able to use this option. For me, I unticked Guests, but all others can use it.

    Leave the Display box unticked.

    Save

Now go to your forum home page and see if it's there

if you need more help, let me know. Mine works perfectly and made all my members very happy.
