Advice To Members Before Posting Empty Advice To Members Before Posting

Sometimes, all you need to do is take a step back and think for a second, think to yourself, is what you are about to say or do the right thing? how will it hurt others? how will it hurt yourself?

If you are still satisfied with your own personal questions answers, then post away, sometimes, just taking some time out allows you to focus more, you realise what's going on a lot more and answers come to you which you may have missed previously, all because you rushed into something without considering any consequences of your actions.

As what I thought at first. Then I read it and it should be posted here It does appear as a random post but lets do discuss this.

Do you take the time to step back and review your words before you click send?

Oh and Tutorials have to be sent to Caihlem for approval to be added. Although I think the Global mods will recieve them and bring them in to be looked over.

Post by zinex November 17th 2008, 2:35 pm

Laughing well when this topic arrived, i went through the rules of the GD and...it doesnt break any, so why it should be locked i dont know Wink

Its something i always try to do. When i first started using the internet, i went at debates and things hammer and tong, getting wild or upset or whatever. But that was 4 years ago now, and if you are getting upset or angry over a bit of random postings on cyber space, from a person you have never met whom knows naff all about you, then perhaps its time to switch it off and get back to real life!

The forums i use, are mostly parenting, so its always at the back of my mind, that behind those words on the screen, whom may be coming across very confident etc, there is a real person, whom may struggle with depression or other such things. Taking time to think before posting is very important.

Great topic!

I have learned a long time ago, what can happen when you post without thinking, and especially when emotions are flying. I always take my time, and really think and rethink, and think again, before I post something. Trying to word things the best possible way without hurting anyone or causing any misunderstandings. It can be sooo hard online, because one cannot see facial expressions or hear tone of voice. So it is very easy for people to misunderstand a persons text online.

Advice To Members Before Posting Empty Re: Advice To Members Before Posting

Post by Demonspike November 17th 2008, 9:16 pm

This was never meant to be a 'Tutorial' as such.

It was more a words of wisdom speech, which I think was needed here as during my time here, I have seen so many ill timed tempers, all because people do not think before they act.

It's general human nature to care about people or things we posess, so how about sharing a little kindness and care with all the other members, to uphold the Forums reputation and appearence to all guests and new members, this will stop so many people comming here and going away hurt from the site, because of something sombody has said or done.

I could be wrong, but is this not the site people come to for help?

If it is, then we should be supplying the helpful service and not looking like a pack of animals who attack each other when they see an oppotunity.

I like to think about what I say to others and how it may or may not affect them, I would also like to share something with you and hope that you all remember this and keep it in mind at all times whilst you are posting:

"Kindness costs nothing, it is such a small gesture to make, but has such a HUGE impact on people, which makes it worth it's weight in gold"

Here's another couple of quotes:

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured."

"When angry, count ten before you speak; if very angry, a hundred."

"Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten."

Are those actual quotations from somewhere Scamite?

Or did you do what I done and made them up from the heart?

Good advise! Being in the security industry- I have learned to "Think before you speak". When others are being irrate and yelling at you- you sit back and listen to what they have to say. Then think about what you are going to say without "adding fuel to the fire". I have had people who said they wanted to kill me, and after talking to them, they turn around and say thanks for listening- and it turned out well. Same with anything I post on the interent- I always think before I type. Smile

This Proverb remains true:

"Have you beheld a man hasty with his words? There is more hope for someone stupid than for him"

I know a few similar quotes in which have a similar meaning to theese ones, in which scamite mde himself...but i wont say what tey are.

I also think before i post something, especually after the recent "foruMotion staff VS. members" war.
But than again, iv alsways thought before i post something...Well, not always, i occasionally dont, i which happened here and i apolagies to the person it was directed at, because it was impolite and not thought through at all.

I want to add that I am in NO way telling you all what to do, I am merely pointing out a way to do something which may be more beneifcial to you.

You may if you wish, ignore what I have said previously and go about abusing people with every post, this is your choice.. ALL I am trying to do is maybe make you think twice about doing that for a better Forum for all of us.

You can also take this knowledge away with you and spread it around, use it in different aspects of your life even.. you may see it makes a difference to everything if you choose to follow what I have suggested.

Again, this is not a directive, it is merely a friendly suggestion to you all.

Advice To Members Before Posting Empty Re: Advice To Members Before Posting

Post by Demonspike November 28th 2008, 10:15 am

Ok, so I haven't posted here for a while, and that by rights, is not breaking rules.. *phew*

Anyhow, the reason I am making another post in this thread is to bring this one point to the attention of the Staff mainly, but anyone else is also welcome also.

My main point I am going to be discussing is:

The state of behavoiur I have witnessed recently from Members is shameful

From what I have seen recently, I am none too impressed and I ask that my advice to them which I wrote to be begin this thread, is added to somewhere, where it can be viewed and people will take more notice of it or a least they can choose to.

I heard there is a procedure to make this possible, I think 'Kilsek' said something about a procedure to make this an Anouncement or Sticky..???

Not sure, anyway, can I please get some Staff answers? it seems I have all your backing in WHAT I wrote here, but it's being forgotten, I do not wish to see the repuatation of the Forum spoiled and it look like it's an out of control rabble of people who come here for help, then stay to cause trouble.

I am sure this is not how you want to see your Forum become either.

Manners and Respect are seriously lacking from within this Forums limits, could we possibly instate what I have writen in my first post to begin this Forum?..giving it more than just another thread space taken up.

ALL comments will be welcome here.. If anything, I really would like this to happen as it may actually STOP the riots which occur so needlessly and so often. as of late.

I don't know just yet, but I am beginning to feel people look up to me, as some kind of "Figure-head"
IF this is true, then this will be for the good of all the people here.. and it will be an honour to perform this role for you all.

If I am not, then it's ok...

Please, consider my proposal..Forumotion Staff..Please make the right decision..just let me know.

I think the issue isn't the rules, because they mention behaviour to avoid.
I think the issue at hand is that my staff isn't giving Serious Warnings enough and that some members don't seem to care or realise when the get warned.

All I can say is that if they continue, it won't be long lived

i sometimes find it hard to join a forum where people can be mean i like being nice over mean that why if i was a admin i would still act like a member and listen. to any one who wants to listen. i agree with a lot of people on this thread. i feel like i am not on terms with some of the members say. but i can not allow everything come to heart.we all have problems that we have to deal with. but i learned alot from this thread.this is the first thread i felt like the weight is off my shoulders thanks.

If you go on the basis that this isn't real, then why bother?
That logic is what hass people insulting each other, talking crap, and even hacking other's sites. Why? Because if it isn't real who cares of the consequences or what happens...

This is irresponsable and immoral. I guess people just aren't like that, at least most of them

:pfff:

I have met MANY many people who I have first met online! It has been a GREAT experience. In fact I was married to someone I met online for 8 years, unfortunately ended in divorce, but not because of meeting online. And NOW I am living with my boyfriend who I have met online as well! Wink So it has been pretty "real life" to me!
