Phpbb2, phpbb3, punbb, Invision?? Say What?

Phpbb2, phpbb3, punbb, and Invision??

so what exactly are the
-difference
-specialties/resrictions
-associated fees
-reccomendations
-easiest to use

and any other info about these?? lol i am so confused! I have the phpbb2 and was wondering if i should switch for my casual gaming forum site.

Unless you are a wiz with CSS stay with version 2. Version 2 has template editing and the others do not.

The others as some may say look more professional. Which is bull.

Version 2 is the easiest to use.

punbb and IPB >> great CSS
phpbb2 >> lousy CSS
phpbb3 >> somewhere in the middle of IPB and phpbb2

it all depends what sort of computer knowledge you have.

do you know css etc.

phpBB 3 is the easiest to use, but I recommend phpBB 2 if you want more customization for your forum.

and as kilsek mentioned... phpbb2 is the most stable , most ugly , most reliable , most stubborn and unmanageable platform there is ...
He forgot to mention that is slowly fading away ... like the hair on a 50 year old man... slowly but defiantly.
As a web designer ... i say this...

if you know jack about forum css and changing its design ... take the stable almost extinct phpbb2...
if you know jack about forum css but want a nice look from the start ... go phpbb3
If you want something elegant , go punBB...
and if your middle name is customization and you have cascading style sheet written on your forehead go IPB (invision)

All the platforms are identical in terms of actually working... all of them post messages and can send PM's, all comes down to how much you want to customize the forum.
