Wouldn't that separate the ranks? Like, wouldn't that make one rank (the default rank) up the top of the profile near the avatar and the other one near the bottom?

Uhm, you can have more than two ranks without that coding stuff there!
Just in Admin Panel -> Users&Groups -> Rank Administration.
