[b]am i able to make the categories main color transparent so that i can see my custom image in the very back?

I don't understand the tranparent thing. I have seen it in forums and it really gives a 3D affect to the forum.

Yes you can. At least I managed to using Invision. Go to your Admin Panel > Display > Colors > Category Header background color: > Leave box blank > Save
