Friends and Foes

When I try to add my neighbour to my friend's list and he clicks on the plus button to ok the request, it does not work, as he already has me and says cannot add as already on the list. Tried deleting and doing it that way, it remains in his profile, but mine shows no friend added. Not sure whether this has anything to do with the updates, just wondering whether anyone else has had this problem, or whether anyone has a solution.
