Domain name query Empty Domain name query

Post by liquidg May 2nd 2009, 12:25 am

Hi,hopefully helpfull folk.
i am just asking about what to do in relation to the personalised domain name with in the admin side of the forum.
we have a domian name for our website,do i use this one somehow and there is wording on an external domian name.
I am looking at the forum address page and do not know what to do.
just by using a made up domain name and forum name could you write down the steps i would need to take to acheive domain name set up and what does it achieve.
If there is a simple explaination somewhere already i would love to see it and try to do what is needed to get the forum it's best exposer.

I don't really understand what you are stating. Are you saying that you haven't bought a domain name yet, but you are going to?

Domain name query Empty domian name

Post by liquidg May 2nd 2009, 10:16 am

We have a website that we got a domain name for and that is fine, now do we use the same domain name for the forum or do we get another one for it as well or do you split the use of it or do you transfer it,whcih is no good as we need it for the website.

Where it says in the admin of the forum when you open forum address and than open personalised domain name, what would i do in our situation, with what i have explained.

Do i need a different domain name for the forum, does it help to get the forum noticed on the internet.

The domain name we have for our website is not the same as the forum name, can that work.

Well i would just use the current forum name similar to your domain name & just provide a link to the forum.

I'd advise you do what Sanket stated. Just make them both similar to each other in some way by the domain names.

Also, you can always have your website and forum affiliated with one another whereas they'll be linked to each other so access can go to and fro from your forum / website.

Domain name query Empty domain

Post by liquidg May 3rd 2009, 2:09 am

The problem is the domain name and the forum name are nothing similar.

The website domain name is not the same as the home page name but i put the homepage name in the meta data and google excepts that so we get hits off the home page name as the domain name was a mistake,it doesnt reflect what we are at all.

There is a link from our home page to the forum.

we may have to change the domain name.

This linking to each other or any other way to use it would be great.

What steps, click by click do you think i should take.

You can change the name on your forum through this

As i said, i would just change the address here.

Domain name query Empty change name

Post by liquidg May 3rd 2009, 12:03 pm

I have done that, but will google pick it up with the same domain name as our website or any domain name inserted in the personalised domain name spot.

I tried our domain name in the that spot but it rejected it.

We just want the forum picked up with a slightly different name to the website.

Well, your original domain name is good enough. Google will also index your forum url based on activity.

Domain name query Empty domain

Post by liquidg May 4th 2009, 6:34 am

I put the domain name in and this comes up (The supplied domain name is not well configured
Your CNAME must redirect to ) than the address of the forum.

What does it mean by the cname must redirect to

should i be putting the domain name in with the forum name and code or something.

If anyone understands my problem, could you just type an example of it so i can copy It with our domain and address, etc, where the personalised domain name area is.

Thanks you!
