Most Recent Post Does Not Show On My Home Page

I have my categories as follows:

Member
Lobby
Fun & Games

Now usually you can have your most recent post indicated beside the Lobby part, but on mine, it doesn't show. It's simply blank. How can I change it so the most recent post shows in that box?

If you see beside the word lobby, usually you can have the most recent post. Here its just blank.

You see I have my categories as Member, Lobby, Fun & games,
Under each categorie, I have my main forums, Fun & Games, (ex)
When I click on Fun & games, I have all the topics that are started.

What i'd like is to have the most recent post to show up on the main page under my category.

Is there a way to shrink where I have my categories, instead of having that long stretch of nothing between the category names and the last post..

So, is there a way to make that little box that says Latest Post bigger?..
