Transparent Banner Empty Transparent Banner

Post by jake66 September 3rd 2009, 7:35 pm

Hi,

I have not got photoshop, and have tried all the things I can think of to get rid of the white background on my banner. I am finding it impossible. Any ideas?

Thanks.

P.S Don't think I have tried absolutly everything because I am only 12 (that will explain my spelling!!)

honestly, you need a program to do this. I suggest Paint.net or GIMP which have a lot of photoshop-like qualities. basically any program with the "magic wand" tool will work. I use Paint.net more often so i'll tell you how to fix your problem with this program. Once you have it all downloaded (assuming you didn't have a problem with that Very Happy ,but I never have with that program), Run the program and open the image of your banner/logo (or printscreen (prtsc key, and paste) it into the program). Then select the magic wand tool, (which'll look like a piece of make-up equipment, or it's the 4th tool down on the left) and use it to highlight any of the white that you want to be transparent (just click on it, no dragging) and then press the delete key (DEL). Presto! save it as a .gif file if you want it sharp, and a window will open with two sliders. move them both all the way to the right (they'll be named dithering level and transparency threshold which is just a bunch of technical mumbo-jumbo for color quality and how transparent you want it to be.). press ok and upload it.

NOTE: this method will work best if your banner does NOT have a gradient from any color to white
