Member problem

Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong section of the forum.

Ok, so i asked one of my friends to join my forum and he did but he never got a confirmation email... He checked his junk in his email but nothing. So i hat to go to "Users & Groups" and then i had to click "inactive users" and i hat to activate his profile their... But why did i have to do this? i mean i don't want to do this every time somebody signs up to my forum. This is the second time this has happened to a member. So why isn't some the members that join up to my forum getting confirmation email am i doing something wrong? i need help on this ASAP

Go to the Admin Panel > Users and groups > Users options > Then you will see "New accounts activation " select "User" and hit save.
