Message Posting Widgets Not Working

I am brand new to creating and managing a forum. So my problem could be operator error. My problem is I used a skin from someone else, but created new widget buttons for the Message Posting. They are three button icons:

New posts, No new posts, Forum is locked

Those three icons run down the left side of the forum. They also appear at the bottom of the page. The "No New Posts" icon appears correctly down the left side of the forum, but when a new message is created, the icon does not change to the "New Posts" icon image. The "Forum is Locked" icon does appear but as Admin I set it to locked on a Forum topic, to see if it worked and it did change, then changed it back to unlocked.

At any rate, when a new message is entered into a forum, the "New Posts" icon does not appear.

What am I doing wrong?

Are you yourself posting the new message & checking for the new posts icon, then it won't appear. Other user should post, then you will see the new posts button.

Oh. Well, that's probably what is happening. I'll just wait for another to post and see. Thank you!

To test things like this you should always have anther account as a regular member.
then you can log out and log in as the test member and you can see different things such as this or permissions to make sure they are working correctly.
