Identifying posts by number

What needs to be done to enable posts to be numbered?

Say there are 5 posts within a thread, is there any way to number each post?
e.g. 1st post is #1, second post is #2 etc. It's makes it much easier to reference a post.

Example: If a member asks a specific question, they can be referred to a particular post by number.
Question: What post had the address to whatever?
Answer: Go to post #7.

I don't believe this is possible unless your on a Invision version, which is then Automatic
