Solved Forum missing

Post by FaeandMerfolk Sat Sep 26, 2009 1:54 am

Since nobody responded to my last plea for help I gave up on fixing my problem. However now I have a more intense problem than before.

At about 3:00 AM Friday Morning without any warning the system must of glitched or something because while checking my forum the whole forum disappeared except for the header. The person I was on the phone with saw the same thing. I got my forum back somehow, but I still have a large number of my members who cannot see anything but the header.

Can somebody please tell me what is going on and how I can fix it? This is not good for the community that I am heading the forum for.

I don't see a problem with the forum. What can they see exactly?

Ask them to clear their cache.

One of them has tried that but it still won't show up. They get a white background with just the header (OKCA part and the links in the square below) and nothing else. The rest of the navigation works and brings up the calendar and galleries and so forth, but the forum part itself can't be seen.

My view of it actually shows the forum, but I still only have white background no matter what I adjust it to in the admin settings. I'm not too worried about that though. It's them not seeing anything below the box with the links to our friends that bothers me.

My husband just said he cannot see the forum beneath the links either and he's on a laptop in the other room.

Sorry for the double post. I was actually in the process of trying to edit the other one and delete that one. I thought about that after I posted. It's the first time I've done it.

As for the problem, as I've said. I've had people clear cache, history, temp and everything and it's still not visible to them.

I'm sorry, I'm just trying to figure out what is wrong before I lose members.

um.. probably the basics like IE .. which is pretty much the browser for all the internet connections I believe. I use Firefox myself, but I just checked it in my IE browser and it's not loading anything below the box either.

Ok i guess i have found the issue. The current skin is incompatible with IE.
On firefox, i don't really see any kinda issue.

I tried a preview of your forum with another skin from hitskin.com on IE & it showed all the forums without any problem.

Solved Re: Forum missing

Post by FaeandMerfolk Sat Sep 26, 2009 3:08 am

That's odd cause it was the same layout it's been since the forum started. I've only started playing with the layout since it disappeared because I was trying to get it back. lol

So what do I need to do to fix this? Just put a random skin on and alter it to fit my theme again?

Please forgive me, I'm not real tech savy. It took me a long time to get the forum how I had it because I couldn't figure out how to do it. I am a costumer, performer and event coordinator, not a tech guru.

Okay, I've changed my theme to the themes listed in the admin pages 4 times and it's still doing this to me.

Did you try other skins?

Also, lately did you do any changes in the template or add any code anywhere?

Solved Re: Forum missing

Post by FaeandMerfolk Sat Sep 26, 2009 4:21 am

No, I just pulled up the site at 3 am, it did some little funky glitch where it was there, it flashed and it wasn't there anymore. Then it came back for me but won't show the background color and did not show back up for others.

I do not know css coding or anything like that. I'm not good with tech. All I do is edit the colors in the admin and ad pics via the file sharing program you have set up to use with the forum.

I did ad the link to the OKCosplay website to the box of links in the header, but that was it. It was fine at first but after it glitched like that I even tried removing it to see if it would work and no go.

I've changed the skins repeatedly tonight and they are still doing the same thing. I've got a meeting early tomorrow and it's 3:30 am here. It's officially been 24 hours that people have not been able to get on the forum now and I am still just as lost as I was before.

For the time being you could ask them to use any browser other than IE. I will try to find a solution to this issue.

I thank you very much for your help. It is greatly appreciated. Please forgive me if I seemed snippy in the least. I This is highly frustrating to me, but I did not mean for it to seem rude if I did. Smile

Your forum and the work involved in it's upkeep is greatly appreciated by my whole group. I just wish I could figure this out.
