Activating members

Okay Im having a problem with my members activating there accounts.
How do i set so they can activate it themselves instead of me going to Users&Groups->Inactive users
to activate them. I got like 2 new members and i had to active them. I did go to user options, New accounts activation and put user. I don't know if its working. Is there something else i need to do?

Okay yes i did that.
But some people are telling me it won't work for them.

What do you mean, ask them to register again.
