more characters allowed in sigs?
more characters allowed in sigs
right now, there can only be 500 characters in a sig.
should that number be increased to a custom number? (custom number chosen by admin of forum). if a custom number isn't possible, there should be at least 1500 + characters in a sig.
if you vote yes, thanks! and post telling how many characters you think there should be in a sig.

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
but that also includes all the url= tags and img tags and tag here and there which can take up alot of characters for very little content ^_~
Re: more characters allowed in sigs
oh they did? but if possible, more characters would be better.
like consoleelosnoc said, the characters include the url tags, etc.
those tags take up too much space in sigs. some urls are long and adding text when linking urls takes up more space.......i think there should still be more characters allowed in sigs....

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
I don't see why people insist on having the longest sig possible O_o
A sig used to be a simple picture, or a text, maybe even a linked image.
250 characters was more than enough.
Then membersgot more greey and it was doubled. I don' se how 500 characters can't be enough O_o
A sig isn't mant to take half a page

Haha.. I have seen forums with members signatures taking up whole posts and I personally dont think its that appealling to see a bizillion images in every single post. Why do members want thier sigs to be a mini novel? With banners and pic's and frilly like glittery giant fluffy stuff..Ick. ha. Now if they could put all that mindless dribble into thier profile pages thats a whole different story.

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
well, some urls are LONG and there is no way to shorten those urls. we need more character space to fit those long urls as well as text.
i still thing more then 500 characters would be great

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
I got a suggestion idea to add on to this.. let me know what you think:
If you are to have more than 500 characters in your signature, then there should be a feature that disables your signature to appear more than once in one page of the thread.. Don't understand? I'll explain:
Example:
Console Elosnoc says: <something>
Caihlem says: <something>
Console Elosnoc says: <soething>
ABCDEFGHJIK says: <something else>
--
ABCD's signature is shown here
Caihlem says <something>
---
Caihlem's signature is shown here only
Console Elosnoc says: <something>
----
Console Elosnoc's signature is shown here only
^ Like that.. If one or more people post more than once in a single page in a topic, then their signature should be shown in the Last reply in THAT page if the signature lengths go over 500+ instead of showing at every reply . How bout that?
Also, if the topic gets so popular and a new page is started, their signature will reappear on the second page or any further pages.. and will also be on their last reply of the first page or any other pages before..

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
Yea but half the time, signatures contain links to the forums' topics.. Imagine the lengths of that...

yeah that would be a good idea! a feature that allows you to disable and enable sigs!
oh and about the forum links, that's right. those links are LONG and take up too much space in sigs.

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
Still 50 characters at least(approximately).. that's already 10percent of the entire signature length...
And what if I want to quote Shakespeare or some other writer..

Links can be shortened
how do you shorten the forum links???
and how about shortening links from other sites?
Re: more characters allowed in sigs
I simply remove the extra "luff" betwen the site name and the final destination
I also test the new shortened link just in case

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
I don't see why it's such a big deal to argue the length of signatures when you can easly allow an infinite ammount of characters and let the admins choose the ammount for their own sites. Everyone has different taste, and in this matter in my opinion doesn't rely on efficiency, just making the members happy.
Rather, if you explain it clearly enough, Moderators and Administrators are allowed to have up to 1,000 characters in their signatures if you enter it manually through the administration panel. The bigger the site, the more of a problem to get around the system, yes.
I rather enjoy large signatures and so do most of the members of the sites I regulate. I'm just glad the system doesn't go by the size of what you have in your signatures, as opposed from how much you're allowed to fit in character wise.
There's also the spoiler option you can use in signatures which would account for smaller pages.

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
I aggree with CBP.
there should be an infinite amount of characters per sig and admins can choose how much characters everyone can have in their sig.

I vote no. Tags can be shorted for example:
[URL="blahblah"][/URL]
can be shorted to:
same with html:
<a href="blahbla"><img src="blahblah"></a>

Since when have URL tags ever had anything in common with image tags? It's true, some image hosts MAY try and mess with our links, and they can be shortened, however if we want our signatures to link to something, we would still use just as much space.

Re: more characters allowed in sigs
whilst YOU may realise that, not all the members whom use forums do, as they use imageshack or photobucket etc to add an image. when i let them know about sorting the tags from the copied codes they were more than happy with how much space they had in their sigs.
