Add Tapatalk mod to the server for easy access for mobile users
Tapatalk mod
First topic message reminder :
Taken from a post by a previous member on November 24th 2009,
Members on our forum have requested this mod as we can not install the mod at present i have searched and found very little with regards to the above mentioned mod which in this day and age is a must have i would have thought for easy access for those members using mobile phones to access the forums.
Quote "While looking for ways for the board I am associated with to have an interface I came across the TapATalk solution( www.tapatalk.com) . It is a software piece that takes a phpBB 3 board (which Forumotion is able to use) and can turn it into a clean interface for an iPhone or iPod touch. The product itself is completely free to forum hosters. While trying to see if I could add it to my specific board I learned that it would not be possible, but I could suggest it in here.
So I am hoping this suggestion gets a little attention from the people who run Forumotion. It seems like a win win for everyone involved.
The users would get the ability (after getting their client) to view forums written in a clean interface that looks like the normal iPod and iPod Touch applications. To the user it would be as easy as installing their application. They are working on an Android and a Blackberry version as well.
To hosters the of the boards (Forumotion) they would be able to easily add these capabilities without development or licensing cost (the software itself is GPL) and could add it as soon as they please. I tried it testing on a private installation of phpBB 3 and it worked instantly. No hassles. I know it would take some planning but in the grand scheme it seems like it would be one of the easiest advantages to add.
To the developers of TapATalk they would get to sell a lot of their clients (which are very cheap for iPhone, $2.99). For all the ability it adds and makes it easier for the users it is a very fair price."
this mod is free to install and the user is given the choice to read only or pay for the app and they can post via the i-phone etc.
I would appreciate your reply guys

Re: Tapatalk mod
If we find enough voters, our chances to get Tapatalk are increasing.APE wrote:I really can not see this going to be put on our servers the votes are to small and you will not get an admin or tech even look at it if you do not have well over 900 votes lol
Everybody who is interested should vote above then!

Re: Tapatalk mod
I voted yes,
This would in some ways bring forumotion forward and into the smartphone compatibility era. However, I've yet to try out the "new and improved" mobile functions so we'll have to see how effective this is.
I've voted yes as this would only benefit forumotion.

Re: Tapatalk mod
Members ask for this feature because they say the new and improved mobile site is crappy. I then have to explain that forumotion is my host.... enough said.

Re: Tapatalk mod
So i'm guessing this is going nowhere? If a different thread gets made about it, it gets shut down. No one on the staff here is answering.
If we "own" these forums, and pay out of pocket for hosting and other features, we should be able to upload our own modules that would work with the Tapatalk plug-in. Just my 2 cents. Which mean nothing but still, it sure seems like the majority has voted FOR this.

Re: Tapatalk mod
Guest wrote:forumotion can't add TapaTalk because they use phpBB2 server software, and TapaTalk requires server software written in this millennium. I suppose forumotion could write their own TapaTalk support code (the API is available to do so), but that would be just plain dumb given the security holes in the phpBB2 server code.
So if you want this, and MANY MANY other features, start a campaign to get forumotion to upgrade their server software -- because topics like this are WORTHLESS until the server software is upgraded.
Wish people would read the thread lol.

Re: Tapatalk mod
I'm going to say No on this one. For starters, Tapatalk has been known to have some security issues with phpBB before, and who knows if it's had issues with the others. Additionally, I could see it being a bit of a headache in that it would probably have to take some customization to make it fit for all versions.
Re: Tapatalk mod
I voted yes. We need something to improve the mobile version of our sites. Navigation is pathetic and pictures don't display. If you need to upgrade the software then do so. It is only costing forumotion money by losing all of our mobile traffic we could be generating.

I know right! They could have tons of money by now hahaVladimir79 wrote:I voted yes. We need something to improve the mobile version of our sites. Navigation is pathetic and pictures don't display. Re: Tapatalk mod
Hello,
We are not the best person to answer this, since we are only volunteer staff members and we are not the ones who implement the updates. If the suggestion is already popular, there's a high possibility that the techs have this at their notice now, concerning the lack of updates about your suggestions, please read the answer of the pro admin on this thread:

Thank you for understanding.

Re: Tapatalk mod
Oh, thats news to me. Is even buttercup volenteer or is she not since she is pro admin?
Anyways it still aggravates me that its been 4 years (5 counting the one from before) and mobile phones are becoming a bigger and bigger thing and forumotion hasn't done anything. And another big thing will be coming this year. The google glass. (I have personally used it) and if it turns into a such a big thing as it looks like it may be and tapatalk makes an app for it Forumotion will be way behind.

Re: Tapatalk mod
While I agree tapatalk would be useful. I don't think Forumotion will add it considering it has its own mobile version.

Re: Tapatalk mod
Buttercup is a pro admin, who works on the FM company, she already answered your concerns there.
All I can suggest now, is to keep bumping and supporting the suggestion.
