Dices Roll? Empty Dices Roll?

This question is kinda sorta stupid, and I'm not that much of a genius, so please forgive my stupidity. XP

I don't understand how dices roll work, how to use them, and what I need them for. I've read the FAQ like zillion times but my brain still couldn't process it. Can someone please explain this feature (in a for-dummies language please, lol) and give a simple example? Thank you!
