How to add news to portal Empty How to add news to portal

Post by aredlipstick Wed 7 Jul - 22:08

    hello,
I have a little problem. I wanted to add news to my portal and I did. I add a widged in Modules-Portal & Widgets-Portal Management-Structure. Everything is ok, but the widged looks not how I want. I want news that everyone could comment and there would be date (when the new was writed) on the top. So maybe somebody could help me? Thanks Smile

Ehm, that's not even in forumotion itself...

You will need a simple html that views that page in the widget...

But first, it won't look good...

Second, that code is hard, i think... It is not "very long" but it will take much of time...

well, maybe you understood me wrong. I don't think it's very hard, I just don't know how to do it Very Happy
I want posts just like in this portal. As you can see, the posts are with dates and they can have comments. So how I could do this?

Try blog comments? (Change forum to blog)

Unless you mean you just want posts visible, that cannot be done.

Go to the portal management and look for a "News" widget. We have that. You can modify what section of forum you want to be displayed by clicking save, then go back to the portal management and click the yellow gear picture on the widget. There will be an option to choose which part of forum you want to display. Smile

EDIT: If you want to change a forum to a blog, you must activate the blog from Admin Panel>>Modules>Blog Management (Under Blog). Then, go to Admin Panel>>General>Categories and Forums (Under Forums), and click on the forum you want to turn into blog. There should be an option for the type - category, forum, blog - choose blog.

Hope I helped! Very Happy And sorry if I made a mistake there, I wasn't looking at the Admin Panel xD

    wow, thanks Very Happy
but maybe it is possible to write the news by not posting them in to the forum and have the same (comments, date)?

and the second question: when I will have lots of news in my portal maybe I could have another page of news or it's impossible?

That's possible. Just make a second portal page dedicated to news.

No, I don't think so. You have to post them at the forum. The widget on the portal only retrieves the posted information from your forum and displays it on the portal.

aredlipstick wrote:and the second question: when I will have lots of news in my portal maybe I could have another page of news or it's impossible?

Like LBT said, you can make a second portal page.

To manually make a second portal page, go to the Portal Managements, and on the Portal Pages List, type in the name of your new portal and click create. You can arrange the widgets the way you want it.

IF you want to copy everything on first portal for the second portal, all you need to do is click the "Duplicate" button on the first portal. That way you won't have to rearrange widgets and make it look like the first portal page - you already have it automatically. Don't forget to choose which forum you want it to display the news from. Smile

After making a second portal page, you need to make it visible, because by default you can only have one portal page. So you have to go to Display>>Headers and Navigations (Under Homepage), and on the Nav Links menu, click "Add customized menu". Give the menu a name (the "Text:" one is the one displayed on the navigation bar later on, not the "Menu:" one). Then on the "Redirection URL", insert /portal2.htm And then click save. You can rearrange the position using the up and down button. Very Happy

Hope it helped! I haven't tested the second portal page thing, but that's what I was told when I asked about it, so you'll have to test it out first. Hope it works. Smile And sorry if this is too confusing or such. xD
