Thanks for letting us know what is happening, Darren! What I don't understand is why Forumotion's admins/mods haven't replied to our questions yet and better still, posted something about this in the Help homepage. And the ads started showing in my forum just today. So how is it you're saying the problem has been fixed for most of the forums?

Having said that, we really do appreciate the free service they provide to us and we've been a Forumotion member for almost 3 years now.

Anyhow, I would like to hear an official explanation from Forumotion.

English members have to wait a little while to get them off? That's ok, thank you. I always set ads for guests as I know you need to make money to keep us all afloat. Wil my usual announcements return or will I need to reset them?

This morning I had the option of choosing ads just for guests (even though it wasn't working), but I've just looked again now and that option is gone. I now have only 'All' or 'Members and guests', so no way to stop the ads.

Why are us English members being made to wait to get them removed? Are they going to be removed at all, or are we going to be stuck with them forever?

These ads are ugly, especially being located top and center. At least provide an option to move them to the sidebar or the footer.

I always had the option that they appeared to guests only. It was some incentive to become a registered member.

I hope it is true that the FM techs are working on returning the option for guests only.

The adds are gone to administrators, still show to members and Guests.

The re-appearance of the adds is caused by a situation ForuMotion has with the adds provider, not ForuMotion it's self.

Please... I do not want to be here to found the responsible for this but:
Can the techis put back the code they remove from the forum script, to give us the option to remove the adds !!??

FM show no respect for the members and you come here and call us fools in our faces !?

I totally get that the developers and other FM staff needs to be paid and that there are lots of costs involved in maintaining a site like this. But if they are planning to put adds in our forums we should know beforehand and also, they should avoid the graphic/flashy ones and put special care about the contents of the ads (some forums have children members).

I wouldn't mind text type ads in my forum's homepage. Not so crazy about them being everywhere.

The main issue I have about the ads (apart from the fact that they ruin the look of the forum) is the content of some of them.

How do they work? Are they different for each member depending on their google history? Or will all members see the same advert?

I have younger members on the site, whos parents only allowed them to be active after checking out the site for themselves. I now feel that I am unable to keep the content of the forum clean and safe like I promised

I put up a scrolling announcement that it has been reported but is out of my control.

This is terrible! My members are leaving because of them! I have kids on my site and I can't have these inappropriate ads!

My forum is over three years old and I have always kept the adverts for guests only to see. If we must have them I will of course go along with it. I do have a couple of good suggestions though.

First.....I am in fear that we will get adverts that may not be suitable for general viewers. Some members may become offended if they see adverts for such things as on line dating or even inappropriate adult toys. Are we going to be able to control what type of advertisements our members will see?

Secondly.....Can we move the adverts to the bottom of the pages? I have had complaints from members that flashing items bother their eyes so if the adverts could be placed at the bottom of the pages they would not as likely to bother the navigation from one page to the next. The adverts are on every single page of the forum.

WHERE IS THE OPTION "ONLY GUESTS"

thats not good for the Members and Visitors are flood with Advertising on the TOP . Can we change the ADS to the Bottom ??? that was good Solution !!!

There is no longer any option for "only guests" on my forum! How do I disable ads for members?

We now have a second Moderator who doesn't know what happens to the forums. I find the answer patronizing and then to close the thread while he doesn't even know what the problem is. The answer is simply. you can either pay to have the adds completely removed.Or you can set them for only guest to see.
If set this way ,once your members are logged in they will not see the adds.
This is the only two ways, it is not extortion and has been like this on forumotion for as long as i can remember.

This was posted by Kirk in the "How to deactivate ads from my forum" thread. I totally agree with wow99. I find Kirk's post absolutely patronizing, disrespectful and showing he isn't even aware of what's going on!

These are two different situations:
1) new members asking how they can deactivate ads (which now we can't 'cause the "guests only" option disappeared) which was the other thread's purpose, and
2) the current situation we're in right now, having ads showing for guests and members alike, with annoying flash effects and doubtful content.

The ads don't show for administrators and moderators. So if you are one of them, you might not be aware your members are still seeing them.

And Kirk, we know this is not a discussion board. It's a "HELP forum", so were posting asking for HELP to fix this situation.

If FM has suddenly decided we need to pay to have the ads removed, then FM must let their hosted forum administrators how much we need to pay and how to do it. Some will be able to pay and some not, unfortunately

Why didn't someone come up with this earlier. Can't remember which thread I read it in but I have just added the add-on Adblock to Firefox and all the ads are gone. Logged on or not. Problem solved for free!

Edit: nnow blocked the flashing banners and have the google ads back.

If we can pay as he says why can't they tell us how much it is?

ADS are Okay for Guests but for Login Members its not good.

Hello but this sucks, ads are just enough for the guests, i think that is how you make the most money, guests are usually more than members.

The ads shouldn't be there in the first place. Why do my members have to start doing things to their computer/internet to block ads?

Yeah and like they're doing a sneaky change that they don't warn us about and then won't let us talk about it either. What is that all about?
