Solved Adding a poll to forum

Post by itoh June 12th 2011, 6:30 am

Is there an "easy/simple" way to add a Poll to Forum, for someone who is not familiar with technicalities of working with the forum set-up, etc.?

Do I have to create a Category and then Forum, etc.

(Could I insert a Poll from HTML Gear somewhere on the Forum? I don't know if their "code" would be acceptable on this forum.)

    Thank you for any assistance.

If you are talking about adding a poll to a post, there is a option to Add a Poll at the bottom of the page. Under the Preview button and Send button. You can also create a poll to use on a widget.

    Thank you.

Would it be difficult to create poll on a "widget?" What is a widget?

Could we use the 'script' code from "HTML Gear" there (or in a post)?

Create poll on a widget from a third party host?

slg, was talking of adding a poll in a thread first. Then adding the widget poll & selecting the specific poll.

I just wanted to add a poll to our forum (I guess it would go on the side) and not have it in a thread, where it might go un-noticed. I saw in one write-up that it could be done using a "Widnet." I do not know what a widget is and wondered how I could add a poll that would continuously show on main page, using a widget. I just wanted a poll that would ask a question and resonse would be a vote YES or NO. Person voting would have to choose YES or NO.
Is that at all possible or would it be too difficult for me to attempt. (MY husband asked to try and I would not want to ruin his forum if I didn'[t know what I was doing.)
    Thank you.

You can easily make a poll from widget companies, and add it to the side in Modules>Forum Widget Management>Display Forum Widgets

Scroll down, press create a widget. Name it, copy and paste the HTML code (which you get from the widget company), save.
Back to Forum Widget Management. Addition/deletion of personal widgets, choose your widget, and add the widget.

    Hope this helps. . . .

Thank you. But what is a widget? Is it the script I can get from "HTML Gear?"
Something like this Poll script: "<!-- v- PollGEAR Code by http://htmlgear.com -v -->
    <script language="JavaScript" src="http://htmlgear.tripod.com/poll/control.poll?u=gotaro&i=2&a=render">
    </script>......etc"?

    Or is it something different?

Thanks everyone. I believe I have taken up too much of your time already; so will not ask anymore questions on this subject. Just have to figure out how to get the "widgets" on the right side of the screen. Mine keep showing on left. I'll spend a little more time and hopefully will figure it out.
Thanks again for your patience and kind help to this novice.

Simple, you have widgets added to the left on the Forum Widgets management
Drag & Drop them onto the right side.

Also make sure you add the 180 pixels in the other field than to what you have now.

Everything appears to okay. However, when the widgets are on the left side (forum widget management), they show on left side when I view the forum. However, if I drag/drop to right side and then save and then look at the forum, the widgets do not appear (on right side)!
It seems they will only show on left side of forum.
    Any suggestions?

Did you change the 180 pixels in the Forum widgets management to show it on the right side?

Took our 180 on left side box and put 180 in the right side box, and now 'widgets' show on the right side of forum.

Thank you so much for your time and patience.
