How to stop banned users who come back with proxy IPs?

Not sure if this is a question I should post here in the "Admin Panel" section or in the "tricks and tips" section.... but here goes.

I administer a board on which we have a problem with persistent posters who keep coming back after they have been banned. These are people who are looking to start a "board war" on our site, and we just want no part of it. A few persistent posters go out and get a proxy IP from a site such as http://proxy.org/ and just keep coming back again and again. Is it possible to ban all IPs generated from such IP-masking sites? Does anyone have any practical solution for this type of problem-- when persistent troublemakers just won't stay away and the ban has zero effect because the banned users just come right back the next day with a new IP?

Users and groups
Under users click Ban control
second key type the ip adresses u want to ban.

If the IP addresses all start the same you can do wildcards to ban them. So if they all start 192.168 and then they switch the last two parts you can ban 192.168.* and that will ban everything that starts that way. If it is a good enough proxy it will change up everything, if so there isn't much you can do in way of the proxy. The other thing you can do is to ban the email address. It might be harder for them to get more and more email addresses.

I wouldn't ban the IP starts like Travis said. I'd be to worried that someone tries to register which a very familar IP (for example, one of my users and I have nearly the same IP because we live in the same city, and all people from germany have really identical IPs).

I just can advise you to ban every IP, to ban every email of them. It's hard work, but the only way to really get rid of them. It's their right to use a proxy to hide, so you can't do anything against this.
Zak for example deletes all new users I make if he gets knowing it's me and bans the email I used. Because of this and because of the mutliple use of forumotion I'm getting tired to make new emails and stopped for now making accounts on his forum.
But also be warned. I'm really mad with Zak and everytime I get pissed again I make an account and tell him how I feel. So you'll have to spend more time than those members and even if they go, they might come back a few weeks later and say a word and dissapear for a while.

Try email ban that way they have to continue to get new emails eventually they will get tired of it and stop.

There's not a lot you can do. You can ban what you can, then do what travis_cooper said. But the disadvantage of that is, if a person has the same starting 6 numbers of their IP address, then they get banned without realizing it.
