    Solved Guest pm's

    Post by felicity4us2 Fri 12 Aug - 4:08

How is it possible that guests can send pm's to members? I tried to do it, and I had to log in.

This has happened a couple times in the past week. Members (not staff) are getting pm's from "Guests" asking the member to email them at their private email, because they lost their 'password'. The members who have reported it to me are concerned that these are some kind of spammers.

Is there anyway to stop this -

    Best,

Guest can't PM. I am sure of that.

    Please check the contact form.

I can suppose (or suggest???) there is a member called "Guests" which spams your members.

MrMario, can guests post pms by alternative form?? For example I copied a form from hosting service, changed some links and now I can send pictires from my site Smile Guests can't go to this form, but is login status checked while posting pm??

The member agreed that it would be okay if you would look at it. I have had it happen before also. I would like to understand. Thanks

Maybe he registered on your forum & then used the unsubscribe tool. Thats how he got the username guest.

If the user deleted their own account the PM's would be gone.

I found the problem - yep -in the contact/form section. they were clicking the footer 'contact' - sheesh - I never noticed that before - sorry - I tried it myself - and yes - the pm does show from 'guest'. That email link is the members' email - I feel better now. Problem - I had it marked to go to moderator and admins - instead of just me. Now - I know how it works, I can make good use of that - Thanks for your help.
