'No Choice' option in profile fields

I have a couple of settings in the profile fields that are set as 'No Choice', such as birthdays (which is set viewable only by admin). The thing is, sometimes when we get new members, this information isn't filled out.

I'm wondering why, if it's 'No Choice', the member has the choice to leave it blank?

Did you make it obligatory for registration. Modify the field & make it obligatory. Click on corresponding to the birthday field & choose yes for Necessary Field.

Ah, ok. I could have sworn I marked this as necessarily filled (yes) before, but I must have been wrong.

I do have a question about the description that one can also put into this same profile field. Is the description shown upon registration?
