Post by msedgley September 30th 2011, 8:42 am

My clan site recently went through some major changes with staff roles basically i demoted all staff and reviewed the active and inactive staff. One of the guys has now gone a rampage sending me pm threats that my site will crash one day because he will hack it. Anything i should do??

yeah other then that just be sure you never share your pass, only have other admins you can trust, and just ignore any comments or threats from idiots that are bitter.. lol

If something was to happen, there are ways to restore your forum your self, and if that fails forumotion can always get it back for you.

Just be sure you keep all your information you created the forum with. Like place the email and pass your created the forum with in a zip file or something on your computer.. Because we get many people that always lose or forget their information and it makes it hard for pro-admins to confirm the forum is indeed theirs. and without proof they would not do anything. so always be sure to never lose your info, pass etc...

I wouldn't advise this, tongue If someone infects your pc and gains access to your information? beu
It's best to memories it or write it in a book that only you can find/read.

I wrote my password in a book once.. ended up losing the book...
On my other web host, I can call 'em Via phone to recover password cause they got my number for my blackberry... Razz

@OP - From the looks of things, they weren't using a proxy before they started threatening you and your forum.
If they decide to take action, track 'em down. ( if you could have accessed server logs, you would have seen if they attempted to use any exploits )

If you ban the user's IP address, he or she won't be able to access the forum, period, and thus be unable to hack it (that's how IP banning works, right?). If you think this user is being serious about his or her threats, ban the user's IP. Don't keep your username and password, say, on your e-mail account, either -- e-mail can be a prime hacker target.

Ok mark don't go getting me started!!! blah blah blah, that was not included in my wording, and it is a fact, people are all the time forgetting and losing this info including their own links to their forum for heavens sake.So if pro admins have no proof that it is indeed the persons forum, then they will not help, restore etc..

And as far as adding info to a zip or text file on your computer, well i would not recommend it for shared computers, plus i would do a pass protect file.. but be sure not to forget the pass to that.. then your really beat..

    FYI MARK.

Keep banning them and deleting what they post. Aslo have it where an administrator has to approve new members.
