I need to create a new category

I need to create some new categories for my forum, but try as I might, I just cannot do it. Everything keeps going back into the one category which I somehow created when I first started the forum (about a month ago)

The help page offers this: To make a category appear on the homepage, you must place at least one forum inside the category To edit, click on the category/forum.
This is not at all clear to me, and I have tried everything I could think of for the past 2 or 3 hours without any success at all. Can anyone help?

Try going to admin panel=>General=>Homepage=>Hierarchy and look for this option "Split categories on index :" and choose medium or full.

Thanks for your reply Luky, but I did exactly what you suggested. I chose "full" and saved it. I then went back to my forum, but still cannot add another catagory.

There is one catagory there, and there seems to be nothing I can do to change it.....any ideas would be appreciated?

I'm having this problem too...

so when making a category you need to click the green + symbol on the title bar of your forum like this:

see the red circle? its that plus sign you need to select. On the next page you need to set the drop down menu to category, not forum. Create your category and save.

A category will only show up if you have added forums to it, if not it will appear ike this (category name) in brackets. To add forums to a category, you must click the green + to the far right of the category name you just created like this:

this time on the next page that comes up make sure its set to forum in the drop down menu and give it a description.
