How to manage your storage space?

How to manage your storage space?

Introduction:

The storage space is an additional and optional space which can allow you to store your pictures, attached files... It is not a space to store the subjects and data of your forum.

The storage space is useful for two things:
- Your gallery space
- Attachments space

When you create your forum, Forumotion provides you 20MB of free storage space
There no link between storage space and the general storage space of your forum (Subjects, PM, members,... which is almost unlimited)

Then you can manage your storage space as you wish. For example: 15Mb for attached files and 5Mb for the gallery.

Step 1

Go to Administration panel > Misc >Storage > Management

You can manage these 20Mb beteween both features. Obviously, if you attribute 20Mb to attached files, the gallery will have 0Mb space.

If a user tries to send an image to the gallery, he will have the following message:
"The total size of the pictures album exceeds the authorized limit. You cannot send pictures any more"

You have options

- Decrease the space dedicated to attachment and increase the space dedicated to the gallery
Buy more storage space

For buying storage space: Administration panel > Misc > Credits management > Spend credits > Storage

Now:

The validity of your additional storage is equal to one month.

This deadline is a very important thing. Indeed, you should imagine storage space as a chronological axis:

1st case: All the additional storage space is used

Imagine you have allocated 70Mb to the gallery. After the deadline, pictures are not deleted and are always available. But, you should add duration:

If you don't increase the duration, and you want to have 100Mb extra, you will have to buy 170Mb (70Mb for your previous gallery space and 100Mb for additional space). If you buy only 50Mb, your storage space will be -20Mb.

2nd case: You used only a part of the storage space

In that case, your space is lost. Imagine you bought 100Mb and you used only 80Mb, the 20Mb are lost.
