Possible to have a Refere option?

Hello guys and gals!
Does anyone know any way to have a refere option when you sign up that would be optional.
And also if they add a username (the refere) could they get points?

Is there any way to do this? If you get what I mean x)

I think I understand what you are asking. So an option that when someone registers with your forum they can fill in a field where they say who it was that referred them to your forum. Correct?

If this is the case follow the steps below...

-Go to your ACP (admin control panel).
-Go to users and groups.
-Go to profiles.
-Add a new profile field (the button).
-Fill in the following information (in italics):

• Type : Text field
  
• Name : Whatever you would like it to be called.
  
• Description : Your choice.
  
• URL icon : Your choice, if you have one.
  
• Necessarily filled ? YES! This is what gets it to display on registration.
  
• Display : Profile
  
• Display type : Text
  
• Who can modify the profile field value ? I recommend not checking either of the boxes this way it can not change later.
  
• Display this field for users that are at least : Whatever you would like but I recommend at least Moderators.
  
• Separator : Back to line.
  

-And save!

The profile should be all set up from there. I have done this in the past and I think this is the system I used. Please try it and let me know. I am going to double check it myself. But I hope it works. Please ask if any part of it did not make sense.

As for awarding points to whoever they put that referred them... there is no automatic way to award points.... You (or another admin) would have to go through and check each new member manually and award points from there...
