Register link!?

Now the Register link on any forum will appear to guests! If you change the settings so that new members cant join, why is the link still there to click?
I opened my mail today to 70 - 80 emails complaining that if the link is there why wont i let any new members join? Obviously i dont want new members at the moment but wouldn't it be sensible, to take out that link under the circumstances!?

However there is no way to do so

use only images for buttons and don't upload an image for register. like that, no register link will appear

Its jus i then have to use images for the rest of the inks then

I need to see about the CSS maybe try to take that link out somehow
