group permissions
Hi,
I have made a new group for new members, I want new members to post an intro before I give them permission to gain access to the full forum. But it won't let me change the permissions on it, if I check the members box for access the new groups check box is automatically checked & I can't uncheck it.
I hope I have explained this clearly & is there any way of doing this?
Please help, it's making my head hurt now

Re: group permissions
Are you trying to make it so that only new users cant gain access to the rest of the forum until the post in a certain section?
So the minute the make 1 post they are upgraded and are able to see the rest of the forum and post in it?
Regards
Craig

Re: group permissions
Thank you so much for replying
Yes that would be ideal, but I don't mind doing it manually.
I have an intro part for new members to post & once they have done this I would like them to be able to enter the rest of the forum.
I'm getting a lot of grief over this & for the life of me can't find a way of doing it.
Any help would really be appreciated

Re: group permissions
Hi, I created a new group called 'NEW' (original I know), clicked on the modify symbol for that group, then permissions & then clicked on what I wanted them to be able to access (just rules & intro parts).
When someone makes an intro I can then remove them from that group & add them to the full members group, where I have set it to give full access.........Hope this helps & good luck

Re: group permissions
Hi Vexy, Thanks for taking the time to reply so quickly.
This is how I understand it and have tried to set the permissions but once they become a member the group box is greyed out and I cannot change this without removing the member entitlement.
I am trying to create a group that will have it's own catagory which no one else can see (no problem there) but I also don't want members in that catagory to be able to see other catagories in the forum which are marked for members only.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks again Vexy

Re: group permissions
I have a group for new members & a group the admin area (invisible to everyone other than admin).
In group permissions you have to uncheck all the boxes in the admin & members sections at the top & then check the boxes you want in the groups below, I'm sure you won't understand my explanation so I will try to get a screen shot for you.........

Re: group permissions
Thanks vexy, yes I do understand your comments.
From your example though it would appear that you don't allow guests to view the forum. I can set all the members to a group as you have suggested but if I enable guests it automaticaly 'includes' everyone else.

Re: group permissions
No guests can't view the whole forum & the parts that they can see can be seen by everyone, this is the only way I found that would allow me to do what I wanted, so if there are any other solutions I would love to know.
Good luck & sorry I couldn't help much........
