Gallery question Empty Gallery question

Does anybody know know to completely delete a picture after posting it up in the gallery section? After a friend posted a picture, she wanted to delete it, but it got moved to the backup folder and cannot be deleted any further.....is it possible to delete the picture in the gallery?
