Managing the Gallery

I am hoping this is in the right place, my apologies if not.
On my forum, I have a gallery set up for my users. We pay each month for extra space and all seems to be well except for the viewing - it is just not seeming to be convenient enough
What I would like is a set up like how the calendar works. Before you upload anything you have to create a folder, then when you upload to the gallery, it is shown on the main page as latest additions, but it automatically gets stored in your personal file as well. That way when you go into the gallery forum you can see all the newest layouts.
Am I missing the way to do this? Im hoping this makes sense to someone other than me!
