Solved Question about domain

Post by tribinasrb 15/2/2009, 21:51

Hi,

i'm thinking about that to change my domain name. First, i must to delete the current domain, and then to buy another one, ok, no problem.
BUT, because my forum is well-known as a current domain name, i don't want to destroy that reputiation.
Is possible, when i change the domain, when entering the old one adress, to redirect to the new one adress??

I hope you understand, and sorry for my bad english. Embarassed

You have very good english to be honest. Other than telling people people about the domain switch weeks before hand, I'm not sure there's another way.

There is no problem to tell my members about new domain. I'll send all of them a e-mail info about new adress.
The problem is that I have promoted my forum a lot, and someone new will see the ad, but will not be able to access the forum because I changed domain.

Is that sure?
Mine current adress is tribinasrb.net, so when i delete this and buy a new domain, entering tribinasrb.net will automatically redirect to the new adress?

I'm pretty sure it will. I know I read many times that it should defaulty redirect.
But, please don't do this yet. Wait until someone comes around and is 100% sure.

Solved Re: Question about domain

Hello,

for clarification:

You will be able to access your site under BOTH you're old and new address.

The potential members that see the old ad and click on the link, will go to the old address which will take them to the new address.

Rok IS correct.

I hope this has helped out.
Darren.
