Online is not stupid it helps forumotion ban forums that is not respecting the ToS. If you have a problem with it then talk to Typlo.

From what i read around the forum, it seems sometimes that people dont realise they have things on their forums that they shouldnt have. They do it out of innocence, not realising they are breaking the rules, which is why it seems these sort of complaints now are getting more common. It doesnt seem like this online guardian has any sort of a warning system to tell you that you have content you shouldnt have, and please take it off. Of course if you are an out and out warez site or something then that would be clear to all, but it seems there isnt room for people making genuine mistakes, who would only be too happy to remove the odd thing that they didnt realise was breaking the rules. I think any system that seem to shoot first and asks question later, is only asking for trouble, and that puts us all at risk from this online guardian system. I must admit that i am getting increasingly worried about the performance of this online guardian and the steady amount of complaints against it. One slip, one mistake that you or your members make, it seems, will get your site shut down without warning, and im sure there are a lot of forum admins worried about that, (or should be) and not out of guilt, but out of not knowing.
An example of that on my forum, i have a lot of twitter fans, but i personally dont like it, well in fact i hate it, its nonsense, and i said so in a post. now online guardian states that Our systems detects behaviour or content which could adversely affect the hosts and the Internet, such as hate speech" so what happens now if this online guardian picks up the fact that somebody as said it hates twitter.. This is in essence "hate speech", is it going to come and shut me down now. Interestingly the Phrase "which could adversely affect the hosts and the Internet" sound suspiciously like "big brother is watching you" and could on those terms be encroaching on the issue of "freedom of speech". Im not really surprised that there seems to be a lot of innocent victims falling fowl of this thing, and i suspect there will be many more to come, while as Mani said, there are forums who use forumotion for warez and porn, and ive actually seen one promoting the growth and selling of cannabis, and they seem to be ok. Then we have this poor lad/lass unknowingly having something on, that may be they shouldn't have, and the forum is gone. That hardly seems fair to me, and i really do feel sorry for people who seem to be losing their forums for genuine mistakes, as i know how much their forums mean to them.

Mani makes a good point here i think,showing us that a forum which looks like it teaches people to hack doesn't get banned, but his poetry site does, maybe because he made a mistake.

After reading around online guardian web pages, it does seem to me its playing some sort of rating game, as it says on its site

Makes you wonder though how affective this thing is, when its quite clearly missing the big offenders and taking down sites that dont deserve to be taken down, a warning maybe,a bit of guidance, yes, but taken down "NO!" This system does seem flawed, and run on the principle of numbers to look good. I certainly dont get the impression that it is being run responsibly, understanding that people, will and do make mistakes, and before anybody says, "yes but you can appeal" think of what 2 weeks out of action would do for your members list, the forums especially if it just finding it feet will affectively be muted in its tracks. Online Guardian seems very flawed to me, yet everybody on here who is running what they believe is a law abiding forum is at it's mercy, so it seems we had all better watch everything we do, watch our members like hawks, get proof that something they've put on your forum is theirs or you could be next, while the real offenders just seem to merrily go about their warez, and hacking forums largely untouched. Nobody can ever believe that this is a fair system,because it isn't.

LOL, thats got to be the understatement of the year. Here we have two sites, one is called "pakinstani hacker" the other "Romance corner" and which one of them gets banned, the "Romance Corner".. You hardly have to be Sherlock homes to spot the illegal site.

Well, i think that the banning system should at least give notice of "why" ......instead of one day you wake up and your site has gone. Seems slightly unfair if its a spammer joining and using the the site.....??

I agree , maybe he did have something on his forum, that he shouldnt have, but it should make a difference if it was put on by mistake, believing that it was legal to place there. We should be given that chance. If a forum is 99.9% legal, and a member places something on the forum through the innocence of not realising, then there should be a warning given, and not shut down without question. If you are running a forum with many members, can you really be sure that everything they copy and paste, quote, or mention, isnt in fact copyright. Under this system it seems, if one of your members quotes a song or lyrics, you are now carrying illegal copyright material on your site and could be shut down without warning. the same if a topic gets started debating the rights and wrong of something, if somebody had really strong views about the subject that is anti, then this could be seen as hate speech and under the rules of online guardian, you could be shut down. We aren't talking about Warez sites here, we are talking about ordinary forums with members who can and do sometimes without realising it, make mistakes,or have really strong views about something, and i really dont believe it warrants a forum shut down.

True. They used to give a one week warning before they take any action against a forum.

They're not stupids. Its called doing their jobs. It is up to us to ensure that our forum doesn't get banned.

I think mani is leading us as they say down the proverbial garden path here, it seems you aren't as innocent as you are making out, unlike other stories i have read, you seems to be trying to pull the wool over our eyes, and i dont see the point. If you knowingly break the rules then yes im afraid you do deserved to be banned, especially if that hackers site is yours too. I really dont agree with warez sites, they put everybody elses site at risk because people disregard the rules, so forumotion feel they have no choice but to get the help from this online guardian which does seem a bit keen to ban first and ask questions later. With respect, the only serious question about this is how you have the cheek to complain when you knowingly have broken the rules, got caught and dont like the consequences.
