is there any way other than doing the HTML thing to make your own custom page please help

Hmmm... not sure. I don't think so, if you could then it wouldn't be called 'HTML Pages' I don't think. You could try typing in 'Custom HTML Pages' or something... See if that works or try something else.

I believe there is a way to have a document from your server set as the homepage. I've seen many forums have it done, but I don't think it's possible.

You can always get users that are experienced with HTML to help you out with creating an HTML page.

Yes, you can.
Create your own HTML page.

Go to your adm panel, click on Modules and go down to HTML pages.

Click on add one.
Paste the HTML code for the page. and there you can chose as your
forum homepage.

Also, when you're in the editing of creating your page, you can switch
to HTML code or you can see the page as would look.

In the View page mode, you can add pics, change the font colors, size, etc.

This is a good service to create pages. And you can create many.
