Spacing Between Categories

I was told this would put more spacing between my categories:

Where exactly in the CSS do I put this, I can't get it to work.

Just place that code below the body.

Anywhere below the body?

Can you try changing the
Admin panel >> Display ( Tab ) >> Structure and hierarchy > "Keep categories on index :" Decide & click on the circle you want > Save

Try this, before going into your CSS please.

And I've tried that. I want to be able to see the background image better. Adding visible space between the categories is what I want to do. And I can't seem to get that to happen.
