new post picture

i cannot get the picture i decided to use for new posts to show up on the forums when a new post is created. i have hit the saved button numerous times, and have had success in getting the pictures for sticky posts, announcements, locked posts to work and have followed the same procedure for the new post yet have failed each time in getting the picture to work. any help you could give me would be appreciated.
