All Pictures not loading

My forum's pictures are not loading at all. when will all this go back to normal?

Do you have HitSkin pictures on the site?

maybe its about the update,also, try clearing your cache/cookies.

I hope this doesn't last thorough the weekend. Because my forum is loosing thousands of visitors according to my referrer tracker. In fact, all the images in the gallery are not loading.

Since I don't want to start a thread, nor do I want 50 of them:

Checking the latest reports, it seems the servers are trying to catch up. I have worked with these situations before, and it is a wait-out deal. The gallery is one of the last priorities the server catches up to. That includes your own galleries, HitSkin images, and other server dependent objects.

You should not lose all images. Remember the backup? Well, every admin should back up all images that are on their site - to their own computer. Then, those images can be hosted on secondary photo sharing sites.

Think of how many forums will be hosted on the server, and how much data there is to initiate.

I think the problem here is that they have configured the htaccess in Apache to redirect all images with the "www". When the www is removed, the image works perfectly. But when trying to load on the forum, it simply redirects with the "www" and the image won't work.

It's worse than that. Perhaps in order to accommodate more members, forumotion changed the directory structure of the forum images (avatars, uploaded smilies, galleries, etc). Doing this broke all the links to the images. The avatars and smilies are already fixed, probably because both are pretty much one-line changes in the PHP code. The hard-coded links to these images (ie, in CSS/JS files and in Pics Management) are much more difficult to fix.

You have two choices: you can wait for forumotion to add redirect code to the new locations and live with images loading more slowly than they did before, or you can manually change the image links in your CSS/JS and Pics Management to the new locations. I don't trust forumotion enough to wait for the former, so I did the latter. Since I keep copies of my CSS/JS offline, it was easy to do a global search/replace and re-upload the CSS/JS files. And it shouldn't take more than a half-hour to clean up the links in Pics Management. It took me about 15 minutes...and all my images now display properly.

Make sure to save copies of your theme and CSS/JS files before AND after you make the changes. In that way, you're covered no matter what forumotion does...

I have lost any pictures hosted in my gallery the urls have all been changed. Some of my HTML pages are now almost completely useless because every image has been lost on them. I am going to be uploading these pictures to a site not run by forumotion because this is now the 4th time that the urls have been changed in the past year. It is very frustrating for me to fix all the images just to have the urls changed again only a few months later. My members have also lost avatars as well. I hope that the techies can redirect the old images to the new urls it was only a small change to the urls that caused this problem on my forum. The url changed from www.mysite.com/users/..... to www.mysite.com/users/1113/.....

A simple change that is causing my a lot of headaches. Techies we need your help.

It's crazy if the url of images will permanently change!! It will only effect about 3 of our users, so it's not the end of the world if they don't come back, we've lost a couple of smilies too, but again we can put these back no problem. I just feel for people who have used the gallery a lot. We definitely not be paying for more space if the url change happens.

Seems like they have not gotten all three components synchronized. Apache, MySQL, or PHP.

Yep the illiweb and Hitskin pictures are working fine. No problems there. It is just our gallery pictures that have gone all wacky. Thank goodness the illiweb and hitskin images didn't disappear that would have been an even bigger nightmare. I am still holding out hope that the techies will be able to fix it.

This is a problem related to the servers, and is a known error, and it is being worked on, according to The Godfather on the french forum.

I'm presuming that with this maintenance planned for tomorrow that the images within the gallery and associated with all forums of such relations should be restored back to normal.

you know it would help if you could provide a link or screen shot or something. what may not be loading for you may be loading for others.
we have no way to tell without a link.I am only saying this because a lot of times members will come here and when staff or other members go to there link it appears to be working fine.

I am not sure dr. what you are saying might be the issue. but it's kind of odd that there are not many other people having the same problem you are and the server issue is pretty much fixed and up to par now. some people may be still be experiencing some problems, but typlo is supposed to post an update some time today for those that are still experiencing minor or in the rare case serious server problems.

but without your link or staff can not see what the problem is or know how to possibly help resolve the issue.

Yeah, but...

...if you go to your gallery, is the image there? I'll bet it is, and I'll bet its URL is NOT what you listed.

I'll also bet that if you go to Pics Management and change the image link to the URL you found in the Gallery, that image will then display properly on your forum.

Sooner or later (and perhaps this is the time it will happen), forumotion will stop supporting outdated links to images since the redirect code will get too cumbersome. Especially on forums that have been around for a while and already have several layers of redirect code.

Perhaps it's time you updated your links in Pics Management?

Ok... This is really difficult for me, because I have thousands of topics with links embedded into the images.

Since we have no access to the database to do a global search/replace, manually updating gallery image links in posts will take a LONG time. I'm not sure there's a good solution to that problem...

In the meantime, it's relatively easy to update the links in Pics Management and in your CSS/JS files. Maybe you should start there (since eliminating the redirect code in those areas will speed up your board), and hope that forumotion adds another layer of redirect code to support the gallery image links in your posts.

Can a Forumotion staff give me more details about this problem? It's really starting to piss me off. My forum is getting down time errors so frequently and now I have to replace all the old gallery image links with the new ones?
