Lock Topics from View

Is it possible to lock topics so they can only be viewed by selected members? I am happy for the topic title to show but not the body text.

Maybe create a forum, & move the topics to that forum.
Set that forum's permissions in such a way that they are not able to view it.

I was trying to get away from having numerous forums for different members as what I would ideally like is for each member to only be able to view and reply to certain topics, the topics each member can access will be different for each member as some information in certain topics cannot be shared with all members. I am not sure if this level of management is really the main point of a forum and therefore not an option.

Is there a way to do this without creating a number of forums?

Going back to your first response, is it then possible to restrict access to each forum within my site to different members?

If yes how can this be done as I have so far only found a way of Administrators or all members and not select individuals.

well, you can change group access. You will need to move members into groups.
Also, whats worth noting is that if you give permissions to members, all other groups will get the permission by default.
