A script...

Hi, my Noscript and my AdBlockPlus! has found an SWF from clearspring.com and I was wondered, what is this script?? I blocked it, and I found it on every forumotion hosted forums. Please help, what is this!

That Flash object is the worst of the many third-party pieces of garbage added by the new AddThis (Share) button. It is setting a nasty LSO and is SPYWARE. For me, this one anti-feature negated the other 24 features.

If you have Adblock+, you can get rid of the SWF file and all the other third-party content by adding this as a filter: addthis_widget.js

I've said it many times in the past week, and I'll say it again. We should have the ability to completely remove the AddThis button. Right now, even though it is buggy as hell, this is the only time I have ever considered using PunBB. In PunBB, the button can be removed in the templates.

Dion where is the add this feature located you are referring to.
i just want to make sure i am not getting mixed up with the new #7 share feature.
25 new updates will take us a Lil bit to remember all of them. i'll go through the list now to see if can find what you mean as well.

The AddThis/Share button is #7 on the list of features. In this case, 7 ain't a lucky number...

I will add that using Adblock+ to stop the javascript file causes all sorts of errors. This is extremely unusual and is being caused by sloppy programming (a CDATA statement that should NEVER be used in the way it is). This, plus the phpBB2/PunBB template issues caused by this anti-feature, make me believe the AddThis anti-feature was a last-minute addition that was never debugged.

If I had a punBB or phpBB2 board, I would remove all traces of this anti-feature and never look back...

OK i actually have put an inquiry about this feature as well. i dont completely understand everthing you are saying with the other tech stuff. but my assumption is that you want to be able to remove the share option but you are not using phpbb2 or punbb versions to take out of the templates. correct?

is so please reply and i will have to run this past the administrators again.
if not please explain a Lil better.just because i am a mod dont mean that i am a tech expert I i am sure we can find a solution or come to an conclusion to the problem.

The googleanalytics is one of the worst trackers! So I do not recommend to put these sites' ads / trackers to our forums. I found the clearspring's tracket at THIS SITE TOO!!

i do not know what a tracker would have to do with the share feature and i see no reason why forumotion would add such a thing.

so we are going to have to wait until someone with a more technical experience or at least know what it is you are trying to explain.
i mean i am completely lost now and am not sure if i understood you correctly from the beginning? but the topic has seemed to bounce from a share feature that was added in the update to a so called tracker? so yeah I'm a Lil confused with this one

so i will pass this on to see if we can get you an answer.
in the mean time if there are any members that understand what Hanziness is inquiring please do explain.

Google Analytics is invasive, but it's child's play compared to the Flash LSO activated by the AddThis anti-feature! For those who aren't aware, Flash LSOs have replaced tracking cookies as the spyware method of choice...

Doesn't matter to me anyway. I have Google Analytics blocked in Adblock+ (the script never loads), and I have LSOs disabled on my systems.

Its hard to determine what you are looking for, and so, Dion might just be right about it. Can you turn your Adblocker off, and use the browser ad blocker?

As I also stated, sometimes I like to see BBCode tags. They make me happy.

look i dont want to see any bold tags or anything else suggesting your are trying to use features we do not allow here.
thats telling me like you are trying to use bold text colors etc... they are reserved for staff on this support forum and staff only.

and let me know how you make out. because this makes no sense how i can get it to work on my one forum. but not the other. so if this dose not work for you then i am going to have test a few more things to see whats going on with it.

here see i dont have the action or the share feature. you can leave the action if you wanted too but i just took them both out.But for some reason i have did this on my other forum and it dint work???? dunno there both phpbb2 versions and i removed the same exact thing. but try this on yours, it might work? After all it is working on my one forum in the link above.

This isn't the sharing function from the AddThis[DOT]com (the AddThis is 100% safe, the Clearspring isn't it)

if so it might be the (social bookmarking)widget.

if so go to Admin panel>modules>forum widgets?

scroll down and either delete widget in the list or move it to the other side.

On every forumotion hosted sites, an swf button appears at the logo. Try out FireFox3 and Download NoScript or/and AdBlockPlus! and you will see what is that.

I don't know what is that, but I don't trust in that site, because it has been reported as a tracking site
