can't change forum size

this is what it says in my ACP under general/page structure.

Forum width (number or %) :
Image cell's height category/board :32 px
Image cell's width category/board : 42 px
Profile position in the messages : Left Right

i have tried to change it but it looks the same. My site looks zoomed in but i want there to be space/columns on the side, is there a way to do that???
That way when i add widgets you dont have to scroll over constantly.

*please help i need it badly!!!* we are using the newest version, phpBB3 and i would(if possible) like to keep the site the way it looks and the version.
