Portal and Homepage Widgets?

Hi,

I'm trying to give my forum a little makeover, and make its appearance resembling something like this forum. I see that in this forum there's a portal, and I already know how to make that (though I'm still learning), and I know that's how I make all those boxes on the page (poll, top posters, create a forum, etc.)

But how do you put it in your homepage, instead of just portal? Or does it show up automatically when I put them in the portal? There are a LOT of widgets and stuff in the portal, how do you choose which one to put on the homepage?

Isn't your portal the homepage?

No, because in the end I deleted my portal. It was a failure.

I mean like... I see that the homepage on THIS forum has some elements from the portal (the boxes on the right of the homepage... Poll, Shopmotion, Search, Latest Topics, etc). How do you make that?

Oh, that's where the widget goes... I thought widgets are for portals only XD thank you!
