If I ban an IP address, what does the banned member see?

Hi guys,

If I ban an IP address (not a username), what will the banned member see when he tries to access the forum? Will it say that he is banned, or will it simply not load?

I've got a member causing constant minor hassles, but he hasn't done enough to justify outright banning him. I would like to prevent his access to the forum for a while without making it look like he's banned.

It will say he is banned.
Ban the user for a certain number of days if you like then.
