Regitration not activating accounts
Hi,
I have just set up a new forum.
www.miltonkeynesnetworking.co.uk
A friend tried to register (set to user activation) and he received the email with the activation link.
He followed the link but it took him back to the homepage.
It didn't say anything like "Thank you for registering your account is now active"
He tried to log in but it said his account was not recognised.
I can see his details in the admin panel in inactive accounts, so I have activated it manualy.
I have tried myself by creating two more accounts and the same thing happens.
I receive the activation link but when I click on it it doesn't activate the account?
I have now set the forum to "Admin activate" but I would really like to have "user activate"
can anyone help with this?
Many thanks,
Graeme.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
Change the settings go to Admin panel => Users & Groups => Users => Users Options => Under the members frame, New accounts activation: Automatic activation, User, Admin, from there you can choose options then hit Save.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
Thank for the reply but as I said I have selected "User activation" and the emails people are receiving are not activating their accounts.
I know wher to find the settings but it's the activation email/link that is not working
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
oh, ok like that well I'll try to register on your forum and see what I got.
Edit: when I register I got this Your account has been created. However, this forum requires account activation by an administrator. An e-mail has been sent to them and you will be informed when your account has been activated.
Like you said you have selected "User activation" and when I register says ''activation by an administrator''
Please check them to Inactive Users and see if all the people that's are register at your forum and activated them see if that helps.

I got this Your account is currently inactive, the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another email when this has will be done.
so is you need to activate the new members.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
but I shouldn't have to as the admin setting is set to User NOT Admin.
You should have received a message asking you to click a link to activate your account.
Why is it asking the Admin to activate when this option is not selected?
something is not right

Get into your admin panel
Users & groups>Inactive user
activate the users there.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
sorry I'm obviously not explaining this very well.
I know how to activate users in the control panel.
I want users to be able to activate themselves via the email system.
The links in the emails you receive when you register ARE NOT activating accounts.
They just return you to the home page.
Any ideas?

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
because when they try to log in their user name and password don't work.
When I go the the admin panel the accounts show as inactive.
Surely the link in the email should activate the accounts?

You activate the inactive users first. Then ask them to try to login. When I go the the admin panel the accounts show as inactive.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
surely if the option is set to user activation, I shouldn't have to avtivate them?
Why are they still markes as inactive if the admin is set to "user activation"?
I don't think you are understanding the issue I am raising.

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
i am understanding it. When you have the user activation set to user.
When the register, they get a mail. They have to open that mail & click a link in the mail to activate themselves. if they don't activate it. They will be shown as an inactive user in that list.
Get the point?

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
yes
my users ARE clicking the links but the accounts are not activating.
The links return them to the home page but do not activate the account.
Can you help with this problem?
Thank you,
Graeme

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
Weird, did you ask someone to forward you the email? Then you clicked the link & checked?

Re: Regitration not activating accounts
I have tried setting up a few new accounts of my own and the email link does not activate the acount.
I have tried clicking the link and copy/pastting into my browser.
Neither activates the accounts.,
(it is set to admin activation at the moment)
do you want me to set it back to user activation so you can try it for your self?
