alright lets try to explain better

I have a group for banned members, I know you go to adin>general> categories & forum and then modify the permissons but is there a way to uncheck writing for all of the topics at once or am i subjected to do going down the list?

I am lost, what do you want to do?

i have a group for members that are banned. They are only allowed to view the forum, and not make anyposts.

But i have to change the permissions for them so they cant.

You have to go to admin>general>categories & forums and then click the permissons icon to change it but you have to do it by each forum, is there a way to do it to the whole category?

When you ban them, they already don't have access to the forum.

If you add them to the group or not, it doesn't matter nor do their permissions.

it sounds like they are creating a group called banned members and instead of banning them they are adding them in the group with no permissions.(the dog house method )

no you have it correct you have to do each forum one by one. or you can do one forum and then go through the other forums and just select copy permissions from the first forum settings.. it is faster this way then clicking all the permissions from each forum.. but you still have to go through the forums one by one.

So just set one forum first. then all other forum just copy the permissions from the first forum you set and hit save,
