Can't change skin

The skin won't change in my forum. When I select a new skin, it shows up in the Preview, but when I Save Settings, nothing changes. Any ideas?

Have you clicked 'Install This Skin' in Preview before validating the settings?

I cannot find any such thing to click. It says "You can choose the images and/or the colors of a style. To preview your choice, click on the magnifier. To save your parameters click on save." That's what I did. I even get a message "The selected style has been updated" but nothing changes.

The skin I want is one of the standard skins, so it's not there.

I also cannot change link color. The color changed in the control panel, but not in the forum! When I go back to the control panel, the new color is still there but it's not in the forum. This is weird. It should be so simple but it's just not "taking."

In desperation, I tried that too, and it would not work either. Preview worked, I clicked install, and the forum still has the old skin.

My problem is in the current design the menu is virtually unreadable because of black letters on a very dark background. So I want to change the skin or the letter color. Neither will "take".
