[Typlo] Can the Footer's links be edited or not?

Post by TheListener on June 27th 2010, 6:01 am

Okay seriously I'm tired of this. My forum is being accused of breaking the ToS because we modified our Footer.

My site -- http://www.thefacebookforum.net

I have removed Forumotion's Footer because I installed a customized one, on which I link back to www.forumotion.com and phpBB.com Have a look.

Facebook Forum © 2010 All Rights Reserved

Powered by Forumotion and phpBB3

Now I'm being accused of breaking the ToS. Of course I obviously did some research if this was allowed. Let me show you something.

Nessa's post, located HERE.

@Nessa wrote:Hi Manky, Sorry for the confusion. The TOS was recently updated on the Romanian Support forum about the link removes due to the fact there was so many questions about it there and members not knowing for certain or abiding by the rules.
Therefore after further discussion with forumotion , Luky updated the information there to better alleviate any more confusion over the issue there. Here on the English support forum we are all very well aware that editing the links in the footer is generally not permitted and can get your forum reported for violating the TOS.
But under the updated TOS about the issue it is now permitted as long as the main link remains linking back to forumotion.

Sorry for the confusion Manky. Luky or Typlo will be updating such information here about the recent TOS changes whenever possible.

Romanian post made by Luky located here.

Translated using Google Translator:

@Luky wrote:Editing change to refer to the links at the bottom (footer) of your forums.

Starting today, May 17, 2010, will be allowed to edit the links at the bottom of the forums will remain as long as at least a link to redirect back http://www.forumgratuit.ro.

Therefore you will be allowed to modify your forum footer provided to maintain at least a link to redirect to http://www.forumgratuit.ro.

Forumgratuit do everything they can for the free service will provide a high performance, so please respect their conditions because if you do not respect the risk that your forum will be deleted and once removed one forum is no longer thus restored will be lost forever.

However, Forumactif's terms say this.

Translated to english with Google Translator:

Forumactif.com is a site entirely free. We strive to offer quality service at the forefront of technology. We ask that you do not remove the copyright information and footer set up on your forums because they prove you belong to the family Forumactif.com. Every forum has edited or removed those links will be considered as the offender.

I thought judging the date on which each post was made that we can edit the links. Some examples of other forums that have did this, but... surpize!! THEY HADN'T been told anything.

http://www.fujiplanet.net/
http://www.graphiccentral.org/index.htm
http://www.rcfriends.org/ (I once reported it because they edited it and I was told as long as it had the Forumotion link it was perfect, by kirk, Forumotion's Support Moderator).

Therefore, I'd only like to have a word out of Typlo's or a Forumactif's worker only.

IS EDITING THE FORUM'S FOOTER, AS LONG AS IT LINKS BACK TO FORUMOTION.COM, AGAINST THE TERMS OF SERVICE OR NOT?

Enough of this treasure hunt where us, your clients, have to be doing hours of research if this is allowed or not. Keep the ToS updated if you don't want forums to break them.

Have a good day.

A reply to MrMario's post, that seems to have gotten deleted.

That's why I asked for Typlo or a Forumactif's worker to reply to this. I'm tired of doing research on several languages to know whether this is allowed or not, and the only ones who can take me out of this issue are Forumactif workers, since they're the only ones who can delete my site and that own the hosting I use (therefore the ones who wrote the ToS).

I have no problem to wait, but I'm extremely mad at Forumotion because of this as of now. They cannot not update the ToS and then delete Forums because they did something they didn't know much about, such as editing the Footer. So Typlo, once for all give us your own word, on behalf of Forumactif, explaning everyone on here if this is allowed or not.

If you are really upset just PM Typlo. Complaining here isn't going to help and why post this when he's going to be away till Monday? You do it when he's working.

I have already, and I made it public so that everyone but not just me know if this is allowed or not. I do not care he comes here on Mondays or whatever, sicne I don't want my forum, on which I have worked as hard as possible, to get deleted thanks to a misunderstanding.

So you can just save this kind of comments to yourself. Like I have said on my post,

I'd only like to have a word out of Typlo's or a Forumactif's worker only.

I'll keep waiting.

I did... whatever Forumotion, if you are wishing to have branches that deal of topics in different languages, keep them all and not just one updated. Thumb down

I added it back since I was threatened to do it... just lock this.

Hello,

Listener, this has been in the ToS for the last 3 months as to my knowledge, which is the equivalent of Typlo's answer in my opinion.

Forumotion.com is a site entirely free. We strive to offer quality service. We ask that you do not remove the copyright information and footer set up on your forums because they prove you belong to the Forumotion.com family. Every forum that has edited or removed these links will receive a warning.
Also, it is forbidden to remove or hide the sponsored links through any means other than the one provided, namely the credits management. We provide a quality service completely free and are always looking to improve it to meet your expectations. For these reasons, we ask that you respect our terms.
Wink
