Do You Agree With More Chatbox Configurations?
More Chatbox Configurations!
The configurations for the chatbox are very limited and i've been breaking my head with working around these problems.
Suggestions for the Chatbox
- There's No option for the chatbox to appear on all pages of the site. Please add one.
- You are stuck with the alignment of the chatboxes set up and have no way (or no easy way) to change the alignment. Such as putting the members logged in on the right side, putting the text box on the left side, etc.. Please make it possible to change this.
- There's No option to allow guest to use the chatbox. Please add one.
- There's No option to set the chatbox on "auto-login" so whoever signs into the site is automatically logged into the chatbox. Please add one.
- Please add a configuration option for the idle, auto-log out set up. I would like to increase the idle time or perhaps have members never auto-log out. Unless of course they choose to click log-out themselves.
- When I post a link of a topic in the chatbox, the chatbox itself opens up the message.. o_O. Please fix this so that any on site links posted in the chatbox take you directly to that post and doesnt open up inside the chatbox window.
- Please add an option to put a icon (of our choice) next to the Admins and Moderators name instead of having an "@" symbol.
- When i set the chatbox as an iframe on the site, Guest are stuck with looking at a big black space that says "Chatbox Not Available" or something like that. There is no way I can remove this unless I stop setting the Chatbox as an iframe code. However If I do that, I will not be able to have the chatbox display on every window. This can be easily fixed if we had an option to display the chatbox on everypage (literally all pages even while posting.)
- Allow the chatbox to have a media player. Something that users can put a youtube video and it plays next to the chatbox. Just like the SMF chatbox.

Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Maybe a way to be hidden on the chatbox? Or it to have all the abbitlities of forum posts?
Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Yes thats a good idea as well. A configuration to allow certain members to be able to go hidden in the chatbox, based on there group, rank, or something you choose... or everyoneWarriorcat wrote:Maybe a way to be hidden on the chatbox? Or it to have all the abbitlities of forum posts?
What do you mean about it having all the abilities of forum post?

Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
I think this is very needed. The chatbox is arguably one of ForuMotion's biggest flaws.
Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
I would say add "invisble administration Mod" and allow moderators or administrators to "Mute members for a certain period of time"
Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Oh thats possible right now, i just tested, BBcodes work in the chatbox.Warriorcat wrote:Like spoilers...code...ETC.
Indeed it needs some work. It's different, but it lacks a lot of features.that70sguy92 wrote:I think this is very needed. The chatbox is arguably one of ForuMotion's biggest flaws.
Good idea, allow members to mute users so they wont see there text, and allowing mods and admins mute them to everyone in the chat, and there font will display with a strike through and italic so we know they are muted. Also a message can appear on their end, informing them that they were muted to the chatbox by an admin or mod.Behaviour??? wrote:I would say add "invisble administration Mod" and allow moderators or administrators to "Mute members for a certain period of time"
This is a good idea however, we can always kick or ban users from the chatbox to make it simpler.

bad idea you can see it now the administrator logs out for the night he comes back in 12 hours and looks at some off the smiles to find a load off rude images have been put there for the smiles thus he/she has to remove them witch takes time.
so bad idea sorry just thinking out side the box here.
if you could have this as some thing in the chat like my forum and there are i think 7 other forums that have this xx
so let's say you do this
Looks cool eh yeah but hard to do if all forums could have this it would be sweet not just mine and a few others that have this to
Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Is that how your chatbox actually looks? or is that just a drawn idea? That looks pretty cool. Could you please post how you went about making the chat like that? I would love to do that.BellaXRose wrote:coolo1 wrote:Idea: Members making custom smilies.

Agreed. Also we can just ask members what smileys they want and put them in the smiley database ourselves.Caihlem wrote:coolo1 wrote:Idea: Members making custom smilies.

Anyways back to the topic at hand. I would also like it if we can display our avatars in the chatbox member list.

Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
^ I don't like that idea, as I feel it would take up a lot of space in the member list. Though, maybe small versions of the avatars that grow larger if you hover over them?

Of course the avatars aren't going to be big... Just something about the size of our flag icons. Or 32px × 32px.that70sguy92 wrote:^ I don't like that idea, as I feel it would take up a lot of space in the member list. Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
We should have more Chatbox configuration options, after all it's one of Forumotion's biggest features and flaws at the same time, it could be a real asset when improved.

I think somebody missed the 'Yes' vote and clicked 'No'... For whoever actually disagreed with improving the Chatbox.. why don't you please voice your opinion as to why you would even disagree with this?

Guess it was too subtle
Let's try again then...
I like it the way it (the Chatbox) is dot What you guys propose isn't very interesting dot Last I checked I was (italic start) allowed (italic end) to vote No dot I believe that the techies (short for technicians) would do better in working on other features dot

Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Hmm... Last time I checked, making a comment about somebodies reply that is irrelevant to the point of the topic wasn't indicating your disagreement to the topic itself. I think that's a little beyond subtle and just to clarify, I don't think anyone here is psychic.Caihlem wrote:Caihlem wrote:coolo1 wrote:Idea: Members making custom smilies.

Your irritating sarcasm is unnecessary as well. No need to ridicule a topic as if your typing to a bunch of 10 year olds. Its sad that you lack constructive thinking to agree with PROGRESS of a feature that clearly needs work. The "techies" can work on this and other issues as well. Apparently your just very limited in that aspect and this is a good example of why things sometimes never get done.

I voted no because the chatbox is fine the way it is and all of these updates are completely unnecessary.SPADEZ wrote:I think somebody missed the 'Yes' vote and clicked 'No'... Did you even read everything suggested for the chatbox? If you think the chatbox is "fine" and these things are "unnecessary" then read this:LH Justin wrote:No thanks, this always ends up looking bad and lags up chats.that70sguy92 wrote:^ I don't like that idea, as I feel it would take up a lot of space in the member list. Every on site link that's posted in the chatbox never goes to that page of the link. Instead, it actually opens the topic INSIDE the chatbox. You don't think that's necessary to fix?
How about when people are talking in the chatbox while browsing through forums... they have to open a whole separate page just to keep the chatbox open and keep switching from window to window all because there's no option to put the chatbox on every page. You don't find this inconvenient?
There's no way to adjust or remove the automatic session time out... it gets annoying being logged out ever min just because I wasn't typing in the chatbox. You don't think that's inconvenient & can be improved by adjusting your own limit?
I really don't understand why some people choose to roadblock the progress of something that can turn out to be a lot better than it is, and yes, some of these suggestions ARE necessary IMO for reasons stated above.

1). You can right click on the link and hit "Open Link in New Tab".
2.) It really doesn't take that long to switch pages. I never open a new window or tab just to view the chatbox.
3.) You time out if you don't post anything for ten minutes. If you haven't posted anything for ten minutes you clearly aren't engaged in a conversation.
I'm not roadblocking anything. You're just to lazy to deal with a couple "inconveniences".

Re: More Chatbox Configurations!
Lazy? 99% of the people here agree with this topic, so what does that tell you? Learn about statistics. Popularity wins the vote, and based on the majority here, its quite clear that its not being "lazy" its simply looking for convenience. Seriously, maybe you like to waste time but people like me like to make things flow easier and better. Why should I right click a link, open in new window/tab for? No other chatbox has that issue. Members simply want to click the link. Thats it. Perhaps its you who has the lazy mentality. Instead of getting something fixed, u rather just leave it the way it is.LH Justin wrote:They aren't necessary.SPADEZ wrote:Did you even read everything suggested for the chatbox? And no, no other chatbox does have that problem, they have like 20 other problems.
Also, I'm not lazy for not wanting to fix something. Perhaps I'd rather Forumotion invest their time in something more important than fixing something that isn't broken.
